This weekend summer officially comes to an end, and boy does it really feel like fall with temps in the high 40’s this morning. However if you’re like me, you revel in the idea of walking around the city on a crisp weekend afternoon. It’s a great time of year. Not only are the colors outside glorious, but so are the colors inside the artists studios that are clustered in our midst.
This weekend check out South End Open Studios. Make your first stop at one of the information booths (539 Tremont St, 560 Harrison AVe, 535 Albany St) so you can pick up a map and plan your tour.
While you’re walking down Tremont Street stop in a Turtle and check out their exhibit of photographs by David Alsdorf. The exhibit explores fashion photography using photographic techniques not normally associated with fashion photography. The exhibit opens Friday, September 19, with a reception at Turtle from 5-7 PM. The exhibit will remain on display through Sunday, October 19.
Want to see more art next weekend? Then head over to Jamaica Plain for the 15th annual Jamaica Plains Open Studios. The studios in JP will be open September 27-28, 2008 11-6 pm. Unlike SEOS there are no shuttle buses, plus more studios in more locations. I’ll be wearing my most comfortable shoes, lest I have to cut my studio hopping short due to sore feet.
If you’re north of the city a more convenient Open Studios event may be the one taking place in Lowell. Lowell Open Studios will be held September 27-28, 2008 11-5 pm. They will be providing a shuttle bus to get you from downtown to the Western Avenue studios and back.
Two great art filled weekends – hope to see you there.
