This year Martin Luther King will be celebrated on January 19. Here are some of the events taking place in Boston to honor his life and celebrate his birthday.

Obama Prayer Flag Workshop
Hawthorne Community Center invites you to celebrate Martin Luther King Day by creating a Prayer Flag honoring President Obama’s Inauguration.

Boston Cares and the Somerville Boys & Girls Club
Boston Cares and the Somerville Boys & Girls Club are coming together to host Martin Luther King, Jr Day of Service: A Day ON, not a Day OFF. The event takes place on January 19, 2009 1PM – 4PM at the Somerville Boys & Girls clubs and is open to everyone.

Museum of Fine Arts
On January 19, 2009 the MFA will be celebrate Martin Luther King by offering free general admission and a special program to honor the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Children’s Museum
Martin Luther King Jr. activities take place from 11AM – 4PM with a 1PM performance by the Children’s Inspirational Freedom Choir.

Jordan Hall at the New England Conservatory
The Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC) will be joined by the Young People’s Chorus of New York City and special guest Academy Award winning actor Louis Gossett, Jr., to celebrate and carry forth the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.Tickets are available for the 1PM dress rehearsal and the 7PM concert which will be televised nationally.
