As mentioned in my previous post It’s hard to say goodbye, a couple of our clients have moved out of the area, and while its sad to say goodbye especially to the pets we’ve bonded with it turns out we won’t be saying goodbye to their owners. In both cases our clients own condominiums in the area. In one case the condo is on the market, in the other the owner plans to keep her condo and travel back and forth. So while we are no longer providing pet care services, we are now providing home checking services.

What does this entail? In general it means making sure nothing untoward has happened in the owner’s absence. If there are still plants in the home we will water them. We will flush toilets, run water, rearrange blinds and shades to give the appearance that someone is in residence, take out any remaining garbage, and anything else the owner feels is necessary. Many owners find it easier to get their home painted and repair when they are away. We can help locate contractors and arrange for the work to be done. If necessary we can also be on site while the work is being done.

One big thing is to forward mail. It can take up to two weeks for the post office to start forwarding your mail once you notify them of your move. Even after that mail may slip through the cracks and end up at your previous address. Mail that doesn’t get forwarded – catalogs, local offers and other junk mail needs to be discarded so it doesn’t pile up in the mail box or the vestibule.

For an owner who travels between two homes we can stock the refrigerator for your arrival, dispose of any food that spoils while you are gone, take your Boston wardrobe to the cleaners and shoe repair and have them back in your closet when you return.Want to be greeted by fresh flowers on your return? We can take care of that as well.
